We're Celebrating Buttonwood Agreement Day
On May 17, 1792 two dozen stockbrokers gathered at 68 Wall Street beneath a buttonwood tree and signed an agreement to begin trading stock between one another. This agreement eliminated auctioneers and created the New York Stock & Exchange Board – now known as the New York Stock Exchange.
As many of you know, this became known as the Buttonwood Agreement and marked the beginning of the financial industry.
It is our pleasure to work in the finance industry and to highlight on many of our business greeting cards the grandeur, history and longevity represented in the New York Stock Exchange.
